Here are the playoff results for Singles (Tuesday February 24th) and Pairs (Thursday February 26th).

In the league playoff singles:
Gary Miller defeated Ken Bevan 10-10 Gary won the extra end
Irene Miller defeated Carol Adams 10-8
Andrew Perry defeated Helen Kowalski 19-5

In the Pairs:
Bryan Glover and Jan Moynes defeated Terry Shannon and Wendy Abrams 10-8
Ron and Carol Adams defeated Gary and Irene Miller 9-5

Short Mat league playoffs started last week. Lose and you're out!

Here are the results:

Singles Division 2 Group A
Mike Place defeated Marjorie Smith 12-10
Bob Coleman defeated Tome Bevan 10-3
Helen Beaton defeated Julie Perry in an extra end 9-9
Henry Kowalski defetaed Terry Dyche 18-3

Pairs
Peter Stuart-Sheppard & Helen Beaton defeated Carl Ferguson and Nan Hendren 8-7
Brent Bayley & Jenn Wetherall defeated Bill & Louisa Arthur 11-3
Henry & Helen Kowalski defeated Terry Bradshaw & Sheri Perkins 17-12

Short Mat Leagues almost complete

There are still some league games to play but they are mostly complete. Here is a round up of what has happened as at February 5th with league tables shown.(Click on any image to enlarge)

Singles Division 1 Group 1
Peter Stuart-Sheppard has finished top of the group with 4 wins out of 5. Al Bell and Lori Wills both finished with 3 wins but Al place second based on points scored.

Singles Division 1 Group 2
John Mackenzie and Bill McCollam were first and second with 4 wins each

Singles Division 2 Group 1
Still some games to play but Mike Place leads the way at present
Singles Division 2 Group 2
Henry Kowalski and Helen Beaton were first and second with 4 wins each. Henry beat Helen to first place with a total of 73 points against Helen's 72!

There are 3 groups of Pairs.
Group 1
Bill McCollam and Lori Wills had a 100% record with 5 wins and the runners-up were Peter Stuart-Sheppard and Helen Beaton with 4 wins.
Group 2
There was a three way tie in this group with 3 teams each with 3 wins. Points gained came into play and the winners were Brent Bayley and Jenn Wetherall. Second were Carl Ferguson and Nan Hendren. The other team in the mix was Anne Leahey and Terry Dyche.
Group 3
Al Bell and Laura Mounce won all five games to finish top. and both had 58 points! Bob Coleman and Michelle Bignell tie with Bill and Louisa Arthur with 3 wins each. Bill and Louisa claimed second place by virtue of their win against Bob and Michelle.

Short Mat Pairs Tournament

It was a full house at the Cobourg Community Centre on January 31st for the second short mat tournament of the season. There were 12 mats in play and Drawmaster Terry Bradshaw split the field into two divisions.

In the “Competitive” division there were 16 teams: 2 from Lindsay, 2 from Kingston, 3 from Ottawa, 1 from Oshawa and 8 from Cobourg. In the “Leisure” division (but just as competitive) there were 8 teams: 2 from Lindsay and 6 from Cobourg. Each team played four games of 10 ends. The tournament was run with professional precision by Terry and Al Bell and Donna Longman and her team of volunteers made sure there was no shortage of refreshments and snacks. The refreshments included a surprise ingredient: a delightful table of spectacular pastries baked by Michelle Bignell. Too much to eat at the tournament but many of the players departed with what was left over.

The tournament saw great shots, near misses and close measures. There was chalker after chalker and many a game decided in the last end. All in all, an enjoyable day with old and new friends. Congratulations to all involved.
