It was my (Bill Arthur) misfortune to draw Bill McCollam in the first round and after a disastrous start by me and my partner Sheri Perkins, 0-10 after three ends. We recovered before losing 16-8. So really, we won 8-6 over seven ends!
The top scorer in the first round was Peter Stuart-Sheppard with an 18-7 win against Terry Bradshaw but that was as good as it got for Peter as he lost his next two games.
After two rounds there were five teams with two wins. Al Bell, Rick Barnard, Andrew Perry and Hazel Joffe. The third-round draw was:
Rick Barnard v Al Bell
Andrew Perry v Al Purcell
Hazel Joffe v Peter Stuart-Sheppard (the high 1-1 team)
The Cobourg teams performed really well, winning their games and finishing as the top two in the tournament.
The final standings were:
Al Bell and Laura Mounce (Cobourg) 3-0 43points for and 19 against
Andrew and Julie Perry (Cobourg) 3-0 38 points for and 24 against
Hazel Joffe and Larry Brown (Leaside and Cannington) 3-0 33 points for and 22 against
Bill McCollam and Heather Stubbings (Cobourg and Oshawa) 2-1 45 points for and 32 against
Al Purcell and Nicki Chamois (Belleville and Oshawa) 2-140 points for and 30 against
One game - high George Boersma and Suzie Palmer (Belleville and Oshawa) 37 points
Last game high – Terry Bradshaw and Nan Hendren (Cobourg) 21 points
A great day for Cobourg and, just as importantly, a great day for bowling.
Bill Arthur
