On yet another hot summers day 20 teams came to play in the Palisades MxP / WP
tournament. The Pairs tournaments at the club are the most popular with each of
them attracting a full entry.

After Game 1 the George Boersma (Suzie Palmer), Janice Slobojan (Alan Hunter)
and David Saliba (Cara Booth) teams led the way with wins of 18pts, 18pts and
16pts. The greens were running well with a challenging draw line on a few of the
tricky ones. The Lorne Schiele (Jackie Dunkerly) and John McKenzie (Sue
Logeman) teams came through with big wins in game 2 to vault into contention. 5
teams won their first 2 games and were all within 4 points of each other (26 to 30)
heading in to the deciding matches.
Boersma’s 16-11 win over Schiele in game 3 gave him 46+13pts for the day. The
Peter Stuart-Sheppard (Tracey Warren) team scored the maximum 18+1pts in
game 3 to make a bid for the trophy with 46+1 pts for the day, however they were
relegated to 2nd place as George’s plus 13 carried the day. Al Purcell (Nicky
Chamois) climbed the ladder steadily during the day with wins of 11-7, 15-14 and
18-10 to finish with 3 wins and 44pts to grab 3rd place.
Purcell’s team also won the ‘Bounty’ of 2 bottles of wine by beating last year’s
winners Wayne Wallwork and Jo-Anne Adams 15-14 in game 2. Wayne tried to fight
him off by scoring 5 in the last end but fell 1 pt short.

Although this tournament is open to Ladies teams and Mixed teams all entrants this
year were Mixed Pairs.
The 2 point difference between 1 st and 3 rd place made for the closest finish so far this
year
The pace of the day moved along quite well as we finished the bowling before 4pm
and got home well in time to watch the Blue Jays afternoon game.

A good days work from the kitchen crew started with putting out chairs and tables,
getting the coffee ready and setting out some snacks. Their most important job then
became keeping the water jugs on the greens filled with well needed cold water.
Others helped during the day by running the 50/50 draw, helping with parking
passes, helping with the games draw and taking photos. Last but not least were the
members who put away all the chairs and tables despite being weary from a day in
the sun.
