Short Mat Bowling
The Short Mat Bowling Club is run as a separate club affiliated to the Lawn Bowling Club and new members are welcome. The club meets on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at 1.00 pm at the Cobourg Community Centre from October to April.
The principles of short mat bowling are similar to those of lawn bowling. The game is played on a mat 45 feet long by 6 feet wide using standard lawn bowls. Short mat bowling requires no physical effort and is an ideal winter sport for those who want to learn and try bowling or for those who are no longer physically able to bowl outdoors.
It is primarily a social sport but for those who wish to play more competitively new opportunities are opening up following the creation of the Canadian Short Mat Bowling Association to which the Cobourg club belongs.
