A successful day yesterday for the junior players. Eight teams of triples competed in a junior tournament on
Sunday. In addition to the Cobourg teams there was one team from Montreal, one
from Uxbridge and two teams from Lindsay.
The winning team was from Cobourg - Brad Carleton (Skip), Amanda Goodall (Vice) and Garrick Lauder (Lead) had 27 points. Second place went to the Uxbridge team with 26 points +5. The Cobourg team of Ben van Stein (Skip), Will Richardson (Vice) and Danielle Goodall (Lead) placed third with 25 points The latest edition of the OLBA Newsletter is available. The photo page has been updated with some photos from Saturday's mixed pairs. The June edition of SNAP has some Open House photos. Note your calendar that the annual tournament against the Wilmott Creek club will take place on Thursday July 25th. This year it is the turn of Wilmott Creek to host the tournament. A sign-up sheet will be placed on the bulletin board at the club shortly Besides being a member at Cobourg Martin Foxhall plays out of the Stouffville club in tournaments. Martin and his team were playing in the Ontario fours championships at the weekend and I am delighted to say that they won the Gold medal and will now play in the Canadian championships in BC in August. Full results can be found on the OLBA website A very successful open pairs tournament was held. We had 16 teams including 9 home teams which was excellent. We did have two Cobourg teams in the prize list as you will see from the results page. Mention should also go to Dave and Kassandra Carleton who in their second game were matched against Team Canada members, Kelly and Steve McKerihen and they lost by only one point in the last end. In the second round games we were also treated to an exciting finish from Ralph and Norma Stoffers in their game. In an extra end Ralph looked to have won the game with his last bowl only for the opposition to sneak in with their last bowl and win the point on a measure. It was another busy weekend of bowling activity. We started on Friday evening with a visit from some of the staff from the Breeze/Star radio station. They came for one of their "fun events" and after some basic instruction formed into teams and played some competitive bowling. In exchange we will be getting some free advertising. This was something new for us and seemed to go well. Finally we got some fine weather for the Thursday night jitney - a pity I couldn't be there but I believe there were seven rinks in play. Another win for a Tough team. Full results are on the jitney results page. For the press report on last weeks in club tournament go to Northumberland News The Northumberland Today report is no longer available on line Unfortunately not enough members signed up for the Monday Night League to make it viable. We are looking at possible alternatives for Monday night bowling. A good turn out yesterday for the first in club tournament, Coach's Cup. Congratulations to Ann and Bozana on their win. It was really ladies day - only one male team amongst the prize winners. Check out the photos page and the results page for full details. The Star cruiser was at the Open House - check out what they said and their photos Thanks to everybody for making the Open House such a success. I am not sure exactly how many visitors we had as it was so busy at times that not everybody signed the visitors book! However it was probably about 40. It is too early to know how this will translate into new members but hopefully some of the people who turned up yesterday will be back with their membership cheques - or at least return for the beginner lessons in June. It was a bit chaotic at the time the jitney was getting started but everything seemed to work out in the end. The Stoffers and the Van Steijns cleaned up in the jitney. Norma Stoffers (skip), Bozana Brick (vice) and Sarah Van Steijn (lead) were the winners with 24+4. Ralph Stoffers (skip), Ben Van Steijn (vice) and Chuck Chidley were close with 23+1. I hope to set up a new page in due course with full results of jitneys and tournaments. Some of our newer members will not know that Dan Milligan who owns MVP Sports has been a member of the club for many years. If you've not already done so I suggest that you have a look at the MVP website for your bowling needs. Dan has recently posted a coaching video on the bowling grip on the site. Better weather brought out more members for the Thursday night jitney which was won by Ann Tough (skip), Ben Van Steijn (vice) and Phil Ayling (lead) More publicity for Baylee and the club in this Northumberland News report Well done those who braved the cold for the opening day pot luck and jitney. David Shirley and Norma Stoffers were the season's first winners Watch the CHEX TV report on Baylee Van Steijn's Earl Mayer award. Good job by everyone who came for the clean-up day.
