The milder winter that we had means that the greens are in better condition for this time of year than they have been in recent years and with the sun shining all day the bowling conditions were near perfect and there were lots of compliments about the greens.
Each team played 3 games of 12 ends and the eventual winners, Cobourg’s Team Milligan had a very close first game winning by 10-9. The draw for the second game pitched them up against another Cobourg team skipped by Ralph Stoffers and despite a slow start to that game Dan won with a score of 14-10.
After the second round Dan Milligan’s team was trailing Ross Wood of Oshawa, who also had two wins, by two points and those teams played one another in the final round which Team Milligan won easily with a score of 16-4.

A new event took place at the club on Thursday May 19th when the club held the District 12 play downs for the Ontario Senior Games. There was a mixed doubles tournament in which two Cobourg teams competed against two Peterborough teams in a round robin and Bob Bates and his wife Pat Bylok were undefeated and won that event. The mixed triples was contested by two Cobourg teams skipped by Ralph Stoffers and Bill Arthur. In a best of three games event Ralph , playing with Norma and Ann Knop of Brighton won by 2-1 with the contest being decided by only one point. The winning teams will represent the District at the Ontario Senior Games in Midland in August.
Squashed between the above events we held an Open House on Saturday May 21st which allowed people who had never tried lawn bowling to just drop in and “Give it a Try”. That’s the slogan that the Ontario Lawn Bowls Association (OLBA) has adopted as part of the marketing of the game. There was a steady stream of visitors throughout the day and club members took visitors on to the greens to explain the basics of the sport and roll some bowls.
Thanks to all the members who either played or volunteered at the above events for making them such a success.
