Following their success in the Ontario junior championships Ben and Baylee van Steijn are preparing for the Nationals in Saskatoon from August 3rd to August 6th. However, it's not all about training and playing to get ready for this event. Their performance has resulted in a flurry of local publicity and recognition.
The Town of Cobourg recognises Ontario champions by presenting them with a plaque to mark their achievement. Ben will receive one as the Ontario gold medal winner and Baylee will receive one as the 2014 junior Ontario bowler of the year. They will be presented with their awards in the council chambers of Victoria Hall on September 14th prior to the regular council meeting.
Their achievements have already been reported in Northumberland Today and Northumberland News has today interviewed them and taken photos for their regular "Sporting People" spot. This will probably be published in early August.
Also today CHEX TV interviewed them and taped a feature which should air in the Sports report on Monday July 20th. This will also feature an interview with their coach Sharyl Ann Milligan. Below is a slide show of photos taken during that interview.
