Monday Night Bowling

On Monday July 8th we held our first evening of “something different”.  Twenty two members played two 8 end games but only the first and  last ends were “normal”. We had two ends where the roles were reversed, so skips led; two ends where only bowls in front of the jack counted and two ends where only bowls behind the jack counted. This was particularly tricky where a jack was at its maximum length as there was only  6 feet of green for the bowl to come to rest if it was to count. Apart from being fun it was good practice in varying the weight of the delivery.

There will be another event on Monday July 15th organized by Reg and Donna Longman and I’ll organize another  (different) on July 22nd. However we cannot rely on the same people organizing these Monday night events. If you have an idea for something different on a Monday night and are willing to run it please let me know.

Membership

We lost a number of existing members this year for a number of reasons but primarily through injuries and ill heath. However,  I am pleased to say that so far we have 13 new members.  They are

David Brister                                                      Dudley Leggett                                 Sarah Van Steijn

Charlotte Craig                                                  Joan MacDonald                               Jean Wojciechowski

Becky Groves                                                    Julie Schillaci                                       Sara Woods

Robert La Brash                                                                Bonnie Sheridan

Anne Leahy                                                        Ray Sheridan

I’m sure you will make them very welcome and give them all the help they need.

Equipment

When we advertise for new members we always say that the only equipment you need to get started is flat shoes.  But once you have started to bowl regularly there is one piece of equipment that I would advise you all to buy – a measure. It is not essential for Leads but quite often Leads will find themselves playing pairs or playing vice in a jitney if the numbers need to be made up. And if you are already a Vice then a measure is essential.

Sharyl Ann Milligan can supply measures through MVP Sports, so please contact her if you would like to order one.
