The annual cut throat tournament took place at the club on Saturday June 8th. This was sponsored once again by the Childs family and we are most appreciative of Gerry's support for the club.
Last year's winner was Al Bell but he could not repeat his 2023 success finishing tied for fifth place. We have a new name to put on the trophy – Andrew Perry. Congratulations to him as he won the tournament with a total of 126 points, seven ahead of second place Terry Bradshaw.
Result
First Andrew Perry 126
Second Terry Bradshaw 119
Third Dave Shirley 118
Fourth Dave Johnson 116
=Fifth Henry Kowalski 113
Al Bell 113
Five of the twelve teams in this tournament were from Cobourg so there were high hopes that some of them would be in the prizes. At least one player on each team had to be a novice.
Martin Foxhall and Lynn Bryans brought in a “ringer”, Pierre Vanderhout from Kingston and they won the two game high prize. The next two game high was the team of Ben van Steijn, Jacob Hyatt and Emmalee Smith. They lost out in their final match to the tournament winners from Lindsay.
Also with two wins (but not in the prize money were Baylee van Steijn, Sarah van Steijn and Michelle Tinney.
The other two Cobourg teams competing, with one win each, were Al Gourd, Anne Leahey and Brent Perkins. And Bill Arthur, Sheri Perkins and Louisa Arthur.
In a tournament at Whitby on Sunday, shortened by rain, Bill McCollam, Peter Stuart-Sheppard and Sheri Perkins were third.
And finally for this week
I met with Jeff Gard and Zara Caletti from Northumberland 89.7. We had a short session on the greens to teach them the basics of lawn bowling and that was followed by an interview for the Sports Spotlight programme. If you missed it click here. The interview starts about the 35 minute mark.
